Recipe & Food Safety

1. Community recipes are information, not guarantees

Recipes on HowManyCookies may be created, adapted, or commented on by users. HowManyCookies does not independently verify every ingredient, measurement, temperature, yield, dietary label, allergen note, or safety statement. A recipe marked untested has not been represented as physically prepared by its contributor.

2. Check ingredients and allergens yourself

Ingredient names, brands, manufacturing practices, and formulations can change. If an allergy, intolerance, religious practice, medical condition, pregnancy, age, or other dietary need matters, check original packaging and contact the manufacturer or a qualified professional. Shared kitchens and substitute ingredients can introduce cross-contact. A tag such as gluten-free, nut-free, vegan, or low-sodium is not a guarantee.

3. Cook and store food safely

Use good hygiene, prevent cross-contamination, refrigerate perishable food promptly, and use a food thermometer when safe internal temperature matters. Follow current guidance from FoodSafety.gov, the USDA, the FDA, or your local public-health authority. Cooking time alone is not a reliable safety test because equipment, food size, starting temperature, and altitude vary.

4. Forks and substitutions can change risk

A fork may change ingredients, acidity, moisture, temperature, storage life, allergens, or other safety-relevant properties. Read the complete fork and its changes before cooking. Preservation, canning, fermentation, curing, reduced-sugar formulas, raw animal products, and other specialized techniques require tested processes from reliable food-safety authorities.

5. Vulnerable people need extra care

Young children, older adults, pregnant people, and people with weakened immune systems can face greater risk from foodborne illness. Seek guidance from a qualified health professional or public-health authority when appropriate.

6. Emergencies and reports

If someone may be experiencing a serious allergic reaction, poisoning, or severe foodborne illness, contact emergency services or an appropriate poison-control or medical service instead of waiting for a site reply. Report dangerous or misleading recipe content through the available reporting tools.
