Ingredients

  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup hominy grits
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup (optional)

Directions

  1. Bring water to a rapid boil in a saucepan.
  2. Gradually stir in the hominy grits.
  3. Reduce heat to low.
  4. Stir in the butter.
  5. Cook for 20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed.
  6. If desired, sweeten with honey, brown sugar, maple syrup, or jelly.
  7. Serve while hot.

Notes

Grits can also be flavored with cheese, sunny-side up egg, or small bits of ham or sausage.
